Bonitas Medical Fund is the second largest open medical scheme in South Africa, with an annual contribution income of over R4.5 billion. Founded 27 years ago, Bonitas’ rich history has resulted in well established products and systems backed by medical, actuarial and technical expertise and strong IT systems.

The company has grown from strength to strength by diversifying into all sectors of the market. Today government employees only make up 23 percent of the membership, with 50% of the scheme’s membership being corporate clients. This effectively means that over the last year Bonitas has grown its market share to include 8.4% of the 7.5 million people that are currently covered by medical aid in South Africa. Our range of products with transparent and simple to understand products covers the full spectrum of potential members from CEO to the entry level worker.

Bonitas products provide members with excellent care in excess of the prescribed minimum benefits in a private setting. Over and above this, members can choose whether they prefer cover for their day to day expenses to be insured in a traditional product, self insured via a savings account in a new generation product, or taken care of by their General Practitioner in a low-cost capitation option.
